CSU Los Angeles Basin Project

The campus-specific maps provided herein illustrate commute times for travel to CSU campuses located in the greater Los Angeles Basin. The eight campuses are: Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, Fullerton, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Northridge, Pomona, and San Bernardino. The Orange County Metropolitan Transit Authority collected the data in 2001. There are two commute maps for each CSU campus: one for morning and one for evening. The morning maps reflect observations made between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. and the evening maps reflect observations made between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Each map indicates two sets of commuter pathways to a campus. The first set represents pathways that take 30 minutes or less for drivers to reach a campus. The second set represents pathways that take 30-60 minutes.

On balance the 30-minute commute times correspond to a 10-mile radius around each CSU campus, and 60-minute commute time correspond to 20-mile radius around each CSU campus. The last four maps show how many public high schools and California community colleges fall within each campus-specific radius.

The other PowerPoint file summarizes the distribution of the pool of freshmen applicants and freshmen enrollment by proximity to specific CSU campuses.
