Explanatory Notes
The California State University (CSU) participates in a series of surveys of retention and graduation rates of various cohorts of students, which are annually organized by the Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange (CSRDE). Details of the surveys are at the CSRDE website.
The tables provide campus-specific statistics for ten successive cohorts of students that entered CSU in fall (i.e., from 2000 to 2009). In each group, the oldest cohort was tracked for 10 years, and the youngest was tracked for one year. Hence, each row represents events for a single cohort. There are also separate rates listed for IPEDS-defined ethnic groups.
The data represent annual retention rates and cumulative graduation rates for each of the following groups:
- First-time, full-time freshmen (rates following IPEDS guidelines).
- First-time, full-time freshmen with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) declared majors on entry and who graduated or continued in any major (i.e.: STEM INSTITUTION).
- First-time, full-time freshmen with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) declared majors on entry and who graduated or continued in one of the STEM majors (i.e.: STEM DISCIPLINE).
- Full-time and part-time California Community College transfers (sophomore and above).
NOTE: Ethnic-specific rates based on small cohorts (<60) can be statistically unstable, and might not necessarily be indicative of trends across 10 years of monitoring. As such, they should be used with caution, especially when making comparisons.

Downloading Excel: If you are using Internet Explorer, your Excel download may open in the browser rather than in Excel. Saving from there might convert your file to an ASP file. Rename the file to the campus with the extension ".xls" (i.e.: bakersfield.xls).
